Goal 1: To improve achievement for all students PK-12.
To accomplish this goal, the District will: #1 Align curriculum, instruction, and assessment based on local, state, and national standards. #2 Focus professional development at all levels - district and school administrators, teachers, and paraprofessionals - on effective instruction, student assessment strategies, and use of assessment information to guide instruction. #3 Expand opportunities for academic instruction through after-school programs, Saturday Academies, and summer school. #4 Expand and strengthen programming for English Language Learners. #5 Implement uses of technology that support effective teaching and learning. #6 Provide opportunities for meaningful parent and community involvement. # Implement the Plan for Alternative Activities at the school-level to support individual educational needs. #7 Establish school-level Teacher-to-Teacher Support Teams.
Goal 2: To provide resource equity and equality of educational opportunity for all students, including reduction of racial, ethnic and economic isolation.
To accomplish this goal, the District will: #1 Ensure that district-wide initiatives are implemented uniformly through the Unified System Plan. # Increase the capacity of the District to serve diverse learners in the least restrictive environment that meets their individual needs (LRE Plan). #2 Provide student and parent choice through the Magnet and School Choice Programs.
Goal 3: To prepare Students to become productive, contributing members of a complex and diverse society.
To accomplish this goal, the District will: #1 Implement the School Development and Social Development Programs District wide. #2 Implement the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative. # Implement the Truancy and Dropout Prevention Program. #3 Provide health and social services through school-based health and mental health centers.
Goal 4: To implement a district-wide Accountability Plan that ensures quality educational services for all students.
To accomplish this goal, the District will: #1 Establish a task force to research and review accountability policies and programs implemented in districts across the country. #2 Work closely with the Connecticut State Department of Education to develop plans consistent with state policies. #3 Seek input from key New Haven stakeholders including parents, community members, and area business leaders.
Goal 5: To provide premiere learning environments for all children through new construction and renovation of existing schools.
To accomplish this goal, the District will: #1 Implement the school construction plan.
