  • Use URL’s, bookmarks, web sites as resources
  • Provide and classify evidence when writing
  • Provide background knowledge for a controversy
  • attribute credit to sources
  • paraphrase and quote appropriately
Students will learn and understand during Writing and Reading Workshop:      
  • poetic language
  • poetic devices that are used to convey ideas, feelings and images
  • increasing fluency by using Reader’s Theater

 

Students will learn during Writing and Reading Workshop:
  • A universal theme
  • How authors use real events to create drama
  • Summarize key events of a play
  • Analyze drama for elements and structure
  • Determine a dramatic question
  • Establish protagonist and antagonist
Significant Task
  • Write a literary analysis paper about a novel or short story read in class.
  • Timed persuasive essay
  • Choose at least two Literacy Performance tasks

  • Take a stand on a controversial issue and write a convincing persuasive essay.

  • Choose at least two Literacy Performance tasks
  • Write five different types of poems & create a personal mini-poetry book.
  • Using one poem and one song that deal with the same theme show how they are alike and how they are different.
  • Choose at least two Literacy Performance tasks
  • Write a play based on a self-chosen topic.
